In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1 (ESV)

Welcome! I am Pete, a student at Calvin College, interested in learning about literature, linguistics, Greek, and Hebrew. I was fascinated by words from a young age: according to family legend, I begged my mom to teach me to read so I could read my Bible and become a pastor. Since then, I have seen my talents lead me toward the publishing industry, and the Word has been central in my word-learning.

Over the past few years especially, I have been learning to question my assumptions, and communication is no exception. My current hypothesis is that language is primarily thought wrapped in words to aid in communication. In like manner, this blog will be filled with my thoughts--wrapped in words.

Here at WrongVsWrite, we believe in Truth. My wordview lens is well summarised by C.S. Lewis, who said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” This Truth is expressed in many different ways, specifically through Art. Jesus is the incarnated Word of God, proclaimed by the Church today.

You may notice I am building my own dialect of English, sometimes creating words my spellcheck doesn't like, and trying to emulate UK English spelling. Another quirk you'll soon notice is that many of the books I read are acquired through my library--because I like saving money. However, I also enjoy used book shopping.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14 (ESV)

  • REFLECTION: Texting 2017.05.30
Because this week is the fifth Tuesday of the month, I chose to share thoughts about words that have been on my mind. I have a strong dislike for texting, but I still use it. I have been burnt at least twice in my past by miscommunications over texting. Yet however flawed the system is, […]
